1 Year and 125 Meals

100_2223

Today marks the 1 year birthday of Phoo-D. Wow. When I sat down exactly one year ago and wrote my first post about falling in love and pecans, I had no idea what lay ahead.

You see, I was in a rather difficult place when I started this blog. My life lacked a creative outlet and I had few friends who shared my passion for fantastic food. This, when combined with other day to day details, was causing me to feel unproductive and generally depressed. I knew something had to be done but I felt trapped in routine and circumstance.

I enjoyed reading blogs and one morning it dawned on me that perhaps I could start a blog too. Now I did not have any grand visions of achieving fame or fortune (which is good because that still hasn't happened!) but the thought of contributing something to the world, no matter how small, really appealed to me.

So I sat down and started to write. In the beginning I was all alone. No comments. No readers. I even waited a few months before telling my mother. And then, after quite a while, a comment appeared. Holy cow- someone was reading! A few days later, amazingly enough, they came back and read some more. As my interaction with other food bloggers and readers grew, I discovered the creative outlet and community I craved. My pursuits in the kitchen and love of fantastic food took on new meaning as all of a sudden, I had people to share it with!

As weeks flew by, the blog began to snowball and take on a life of its own. I pushed myself to continually improve the writing, the recipes, and the photographs- wanting to create something excellent. In the process I discovered that I truly love blogging about food. It has led to the best meals of my life, challenged my creative skills on a daily basis, and most of all introduced me to a wonderful group of people.

Thank you. Thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, and thank you for bringing me happiness every day.

I owe a special thanks to Kristin (
Going Country), Allie (Screwed Up Texan), Catherine (Unconfidential Cook), Debby (A Feast for the Eyes), and Dana (TheKitchWitch). Your encouragement and comments since the very beginning have meant the world to me. 'Thank you' just isn't enough.

I was reading your post, moved...impressed as always, thinking that, yes, your food, your writing, your photography are so excellent...and there in the last paragraph, I stopped and nearly cried. Thank YOU! And, congratulations. And, Happy Birthday!

Oh, sweetheart, congrats on your 1 year Blogversarry! And of course, the birthday!

You were the lone voice in the foodie blogosphere when I started in the spring, and your encouragement, advice and friendship have meant the world to me. I was SO scared and tentative, and you helped me through. I'm glad you think I've given even a fraction of that back to you.

Love you, love the blog, will follow you until we have to pry your old, cold fingers off of your camera!

Happy Anniversary, and I look forward to reading many more. I knew when I stumbled across your site, that I had found a treasure. You have a gift for writing about food. Your photography is stellar. In fact, YOU are such an inspiration to me. I have made a few of your recipes and I wish I had more days in the week to make more of them.
I love visiting your kitchen. So happy to consider you a Foodie Friend.

Hugs,
Debby

Mesa Para 4- Thank you, your blog is very lovely as well!
Catherine, Dana, Debby- Thank you so much. I can't think of anything to say that isn't embarrassingly sappy! You are the best.

Happy birthday! One year in the blog world demands a lot of dedication. I'm sure there's a lot more to come from this blog. Can't wait to see where you go next.

...That is a very sweet post and I think the "thank you" goes to you for doing what you do and in the style and excellence that you do it all in...

...I've only been following a short while but I remember "seeing" you over at Pioneer Woman and chuckling whenever I saw your name, "Phoo-D" and I still love that name... *chuckle* ;o)

...Here's to another great year and again, thank you!

...Many blessings... :o)

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary. Publishing a blog takes a lot of energy, notice I didn't say work because we food bloggers do it because we enjoy the hobby. You have a beautiful blog and it's been on my list of "Favorites" for some time. Look forward to many more to come.

Have to post an edit to my comment--meant Happy Blogversarry and Blogbirthday (don't know if they are the same, but whatever term is acceptable, that's it.) Things are not going normally here, as I just noticed that I had put out a post with "lemon jest" in it...huh? Lemon Jest? If a Lemon had a sense of humor, what joke would it tell?

Anyways, cheers, my friend. I'm out of pocket for a few days, but (in my best Ah-nold voice) I'll be back:)

Time to celebrate! You have come a long way. New friends, new flavors and now a whole new year of food adventure ahead. May you have many frolic and detours(I hope).Congrats!

Thank YOU for putting some much effort into producing what is, undeniably, a beautiful, thoughtfully written site. And, in the process, making me feel even more inadequate about my lack of photography skills.

I'm waiting for the roadkill . . .

Oh damn, "so" much effort. Typos totally detract from pathos and humor in a comment.

Glad to know you have had so much sucess with your blog. I started mine back in June for some of the same reasons. I JUST RECENTLY told my family and friends about it. I'm just now started to get a few comments here and there, but despite that I have found that I LOVE it! It requires me to think in a whole new way as far as what I take pictures of and what I cook. Good luck in the future!

You're only a year old?! Your blog is DEFINITELY higher end! I'm always really impressed (and a little intimidated, I'm so not at your cooking level and haven't tried your recipes yet), and I am equally inspired. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Congrats! I believe like one of the other commenters that I found you via the Pioneer woman! And I llooove your blog! I am a blog lurker, and don't post many comments, but enjoy what I see. I have printed off (thanks for that feature by the way!), a few recipes, and can't wait to give them a try (they are the cold weather foods though- so not yet!). I will let you know how they go! Keep up the great recipes, the great photography and the wonderful story telling!

Wow. I just found your blog through blogs of note and have been reading through the past few weeks worth of posts. I just started a blog a few weeks ago, under the same "i'm lost in the world and don't know what to do about it" sort of way. I've only told a few friends, and often wonder if anyone is even reading it? Thanks for the inspiration. I'll keep plugging away at it. Thanks for sharing!
